Getting ready to go home....

Hey Everybody,

We are quickly approaching the 8 week mark for the puppies...which means time to join their forever homes. I want to stress again how important it is to start a training routine as soon as your puppy joins your family. If you read the book I recommended then you already know a lot of the do's and don'ts with your new pup. Make sure your house is puppy proof and there are no cords or anything harmful that your pup can get into. They are in a "teething" stage so make sure they have durable toys they can chew on...this will save you from losing a pair of shoes ;)

Your puppy is currently eating twice a day. They eat at a 1/2 cup of blue buffalo (bag pictured below) at 7:00am and another 1/2 cup at 3:00pm.

We get asked a lot about heartworm and flea/ tick medicine. Below is a picture of the flea/tick (on left) and heartworm (on right) medicine that we use. We like to wait until the pups are a good bit older before using any type of flea/ tick medicine. We start heartworm medicine at 12-15 weeks old.

When you get your puppy I will also give you the puppy packet- which will include AKC papers, microchip information, a list of items that are harmful for your puppy and tips from the AKC. I will also give you a puppy blanket which will have the scent of your puppies littermate and mom on it....this can be very helpful the first few nights. Remember your puppy IS going to cry the first few nights. If you want this to stop in a few nights then I highly recommend letting them "cry it out". I promise they will stop and get use to their new life. I had one puppy mom in the past who bought a large stuffed lambchop for their puppy to lay on. I thought this was genius!!! She laid the puppy blanket I gave her near the stuffed animal and she said her puppy never cried. They are use to sleeping on top of each other so once they are with you that is taken away....this is just a suggestion (if you try it let me know how it works out)….here is the picture of a previous litter puppy with the stuffed animal :)

Again I want to say THANK YOU to each of you for trusting me to raise your new family member. I have spent A LOT of hours with these pups and I'm surly going to miss them but I know each puppy is going to a great home and that makes me so very happy! Please keep me posted on how they are doing...I love receiving photos :)
